Honestly, they look very real when lit - a slight flickering golden color light - and you can see light through the top portion of the candle. There is a wax coating on the candle and a wavy natural edge w/"drip" lines. Delightful way to have the look of a real burning flame without the risk of a burning candle. 3 LED bulbs - use either 4 AA batteries OR 2 9V batteries. On/Off /Dim Button on bottom. Please note letters A,B,C on photo to see which candle you are buying. Candles were photographed with the protective plastic wrap on them, which you can remove when you receive it.
